Effect of glucagon on infants and children with atrioventricular heart block.

Glucagon was administered to I3 infants and children with advanced atrioventricular block. The drug produced a positive response in 12 children when given intravenously in a dose of oo2-o o5 mg/kg. Ventricular rate rose approximately 20 per cent. Cardiac output rose in each of the 4 patients so tested. Onset of action was within 3 minutes. Though the duration of response lasted nearly 20 minutes, any significant effect had usually disappeared I5 minutes after injection of the drug. No severe side effects or adverse arrhythmias were encountered in this study.
